GENERAL SUMMARY:

Pepsi has a great job opportunity for a Route Salesman! Starting annual compensation for candidates with a current Med Card and Class B CDL can be $50,000 plus! The Route Salesman is the primary contact with the customer and potential customer.  In this capacity, the most important role that the Route Salesman plays is gaining and keeping the trust and respect of every customer he/she serves. Critical for success in the role is providing the customer with the quality of service and product that hallmarks Pepsi-Cola of N.E.W.  Keeping the interests of the Company in mind as customer relationships are established, the Route Salesman implements and monitors compliance with the Customer Development Agreement (CDA).

The Route Salesman also has responsibility for increasing sales in the marketplace.  Therefore, having a thorough understanding of the product line, the agreements within which customers and potential customers must operate and using the approach that is in keeping with Company strategy are ingredients for success in the role.  Salesman will also have truck driving responsibility and MUST understand the importance in maintaining an up-to-date and current class "A" CDL compliant to DOT laws and regulations as well as maintaining a positive image on the road that enhances the Pepsi NEW image.

Essential duties and responsibilities which can be changed or deleted at any time include but are not limited to the following.

 RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Visit existing customers to monitor merchandising placement and other aspects of compliance with the customer agreement as well as to maintain good customer relationships. Maintain open lines of communication.  When necessary, meet with the store owner (or Merchandising Manager) to apprise him/her of non-compliance issues.  Take action to correct the situation in an amenable and professional manner consistent with Pepsi-Cola of N.E.W.'s customer relationship philosophy.
  2. Continually strive for excellence in customer service, customer and staff relationships.Order and deliver product to customers as demand dictates. Deliver orders that are "called in" in a timely fashion.
  3. Set-up displays and new items with promotional and advertising materials and sales aids including display racks, banners, etc. Rotate or replace display items to stay current with the seasons and specific advertising or promotional campaigns
  4. Maintain an accurate call list so that customers are visited in a timely way. Apprise the Merchandiser Supervisor of any route changes that may be appropriate.
  5. Establish in-store first place position for Pepsi-Cola of N.E.W. product. Maintain shelf sets and coolers.  Rotate product for freshness.  Fill floor displays and coolers. 
  6. Generate invoices via hand-held computer. Check-in returns and reconcile at days end.
  7. Complete sale of product by collecting necessary payment and proof of delivery.
  8. Deliver special orders when necessary. 
  9. Keep the delivery truck neat, clean, well-organized and in good working order.
  10. Maintain a safe and conscientious driving record at all times.
  11. Attend meetings when scheduled.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  1. HS Diploma, GED or equivalent is required. Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent sales/marketing field preferred.
  2. A good driving record and a keen sense for safety and good driving practices. A Med Card and CDL is required or ability to obtain within the first two months. Driving record within MVR policy guidelines. 
  3. Previous customer service experience. At least 2 years' experience in the soft drink distribution business is preferred.
  4. Knowledge of the Company's practices associated with advertising, promotions and merchandising
  5. Effectiveness in the sales function for establishing initial contact with potential customers, increasing sales and maintaining the relationship
  6. Good communication and interpersonal skills in relating to peers, direct reports, customers, owners and others in order to maintain good working relationships.
  7. A strong work ethic and self-motivated to work without direct supervision.
  8. Ability to perform the "Physical and Environmental Demands" of the job.

  REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Reports directly to Distribution Operations Manager
